  • moving from retail to a prime-of-prime setup, actually worth it for an individual
    D dreamchaser

ive grown past the point where retail brokers feel right and keep seeing prime-of-prime mentioned. but most of that world seems built for funds and serious capital. for a well-capitalised individual, is moving to a prime-of-prime arrangement genuinely worth the higher minimums and complexity, or is it status-chasing?

    Experienced Traders execution

  • position sizing, fixed lot vs percentage of equity
    D dreamchaser

position sizing matters massively. two traders with the same 55% win rate strategy will end up with very different equity curves depending on whether they risk 0.5% or 3% per trade. risk management is half the equation. dont dismiss it as 'just solve the edge problem'.

    Trading Discussion risk-management

  • why do brokers GIVE you money if its a trap
    D dreamchaser

the catch is the turnover requirement + the fact your money and the bonus get mixed. you cant withdraw YOUR deposit until youve traded some huge volume (like 30-50x the bonus). so the 'free money' actually locks up your real money. and the spread you pay reaching that volume usually exceeds the bonus. its a deposit lock dressed as a gift

  • what is your actual realistic monthly return target
    D dreamchaser

5 years profitable, target 2.5%/month, achieve about 2.8% on average. drawdown floor of -4%. anyone saying they target 10%+ either has 5 figure account they treat like a casino or theyre delusional.

  • so exness nerfed the leverage, who else is leaving
    D dreamchaser

4 years on exness mainly for the stupid high leverage and instant withdrawls. now they capped it and honestly the only reason i used them over ic markets is gone. where is everyone going. and dont say go mauritius offshore im trying to leave that not get more of it

  • how do you know a strategy fits YOU and not just looks good in a backtest
    D dreamchaser

the troll names the crucial confound, you have to separate this stategy genuinely fights my temperament from disciplined trading is just boring and i miss the action. the test i use, does the discomfort come from a specific structural feature like holding time or trade frequency that clashes with my life and psychology, or is it generalised boredom that would attach to any rule-based approach. structural clash is real misfit worth changing for. generalised boredom is the discipline you have to build regardless. be honest about which one youre feeling, because the cures are opposite.

  • ea automatic, anyone running it live not demo
    D dreamchaser

ran it 4 months live on a small acc. first 2 months smooth small gains, then a trending move blew through its grid logic and gave back everything plus more in one week. its a grid/recovery bot under the hood, looks great until it doesnt. classic equity curve that goes up like stairs and down like an elevator

    Strategies & Systems backtest

  • ic markets or pepperstone for scalping, cant decide
    D dreamchaser

i went ic markets but only cause i use ctrader and their ctrader is way better than pepperstones. if youre on mt4 it genuinely doesnt matter, pick whichever server pings lower from your vps

  • before you deposit anywhere - quick checklist
    D dreamchaser

pinning this cause same questions come up daily. before you give a broker a cent:

    • look up their license on the actual regulator site not their own homepage. if its only mauritius/vanuatu/belize thats the floor not a flag but know what youre getting (basically no protection)
    • the license that protects you is the entity that opens YOUR account. same brand can have a fca arm and an offshore arm. they route you by country
    • search their name + "withdrawal" here and on reddit. patterns repeat
    • test withdrawals small and early. demo means nothing

one broker = one thread pls. dont make 9 threads for the same broker

  • trend following on weekly timeframe - the boring strategy thats winning
    D dreamchaser

exactly my experience. the more complex i made things, the more i overtraded. went back to weekly EMA strategy in 2023 after my intraday system stopped working. been my most consistent income source since. boring works.

    Strategies & Systems

  • public accountability log, rebuilding after blowing an account
    D dreamchaser

respect for turning a blowup into a log instead of a quit or a silent re-blow. the single most important thing for your rebuild: the blowup was a risk and tilt failure, not a strategy failure, so your fix is entirely in those areas. a hard daily loss limit that ends your day, no exceptions, and a cooling rule after any loss. your strategy probably didnt kill the account, your reaction to a loss did. engineer the reaction and you wont repeat it.

  • broker lqiuidity dries up at exactly the wrong moments, how do you handle it
    D dreamchaser

the recurring pain: right at the rollover hour, around major news, and in the late friday close, spreads balloon and fills degrade on my broker. its predictable yet still costs me. for experienced traders, do you just avoid trading those windows entirely, or is there a smarter way to handle the thin-liquidity moments?

    Experienced Traders

  • smart money concepts - actual value or repackaged TA with new jargon?
    D dreamchaser

im going to push back. yes a lot is rebranded. but the formal framework of internal range liquidity vs external range liquidity gave me a way to anticipate where price moves WITHIN a range that classical TA never gave me cleanly. its not all BS.

    Strategies & Systems strategy

  • discretionary traders who went systematic, did it actually improve results
    D dreamchaser

the troll is harsh but often correct, much of what discretionary traders call flexibility is undisciplined variance dressed up. theres a clean test: systematise the rules you can articulate, run them alongside your discretionary trading for a while, and compare. if the system matches or beats you, your discretion was noise and you should switch. if your discretion genuinely beats the system over a real sample, you have real situational edge worth keeping. let the parallel comparison settle it instead of guessing about your own specialness.

  • trading and family responsibilities, how do you actually schedule it
    D dreamchaser

two young kids, primary parent during school hours. moved my trading to evening ny session (19:00-23:00 my time, after kids sleep). it took 6 months to adapt strategies from london to ny session timing. less liquidity, different character, but its the only time i can focus. trade what fits your life not what books recommend.

    Trading Discussion

  • discretionary traders who went systematic, did it actually improve results
    D dreamchaser

for me it improved results, but not because the system was smarter than my discretion, because it removed the emotional sabotage. my discretionary reads were fine, my execution under pressure wasnt. systematising locked in the good decisions and removed my ability to fumble them. but i lost some genuine edge in unusual situations my rules couldnt capture. net positive for me because my emotional leak was bigger than my situational edge. it comes down to which of those is larger for you.

    Forex Robots

  • the 1:3 risk reward gospel, anyone actually achieving it consistently
    D dreamchaser

my realized R across 5 years of logged trades is 1:1.6. and im consistently profitable because my win rate sits around 52%. the textbook 1:3 ratio is achievable on individual trades, not on average across all trades over a career. anyone claiming a 1:3 portfolio R is cherrypicking or lying.

    Trading Discussion

  • after years of trading, has how you use stops evolved or stayed the same
    D dreamchaser

evolved from fixed-pip to structure-based with a volatility floor. i now place the hard stop beyond the level that would invalidate my trade idea, sized so that distance is still an acceptable risk, rather than an arbitrary pip count. but it is always a real stop on the server, never mental. the placement got smarter with experience, the existence of a hard stop never became optional. thats the line i wont cross even years in.

    Experienced Traders

  • two months in and i feel more lost than when i started, is this normal
    D dreamchaser

completely normal and actually a good sign. month one you didnt know enough to know what you didnt know, so it felt simple.now you can see the complexity, which means youre learning. this confused stage is where most people quit, right before it starts clicking. the feeling of everything having exceptions is you graduating from rules to judgement. push through, it resolves into a calmer competence if you dont bail here.

    New Traders beginner psychology

  • dukascopy swiss reliability premium - is it worth the rougher UX?
    D dreamchaser

kept a 6 figure account with them for 4 years. their swiss banking partnership is the real deal - your funds sit in actual bank accounts under FINMA oversight. for big capital it matters. JForex is genuinely terrible UX but the safety side checks out.
