the troll's math concern is legitimate. news fade at retail works best on ecn accounts with tight average spreads, not market makers that blow spreads to 15+ pips on news. also only worth it on the highest-impact releases with the biggest initial moves - fading a 20 pip spike where you pay 8 pips in spread isn't a good trade. fading a 60 pip spike with 8 pip spread is a much better proposition.

been trading eurusd and gbpusd almost exclusively for 3 years. profitable, consistent. now wondering whether to expand to indices, gold, or other pairs. feel ready but also worried about diluting focus.

for those who successfully expanded beyond their initial pair(s) - when did you know you were ready, and what was the right expansion path?

locked at account creation on most brokers. you need to open a new account to change modes. some brokers only offer one mode - many institutional-oriented brokers only offer netting. if you're running eas it's worth checking whether your ea was designed for netting or hedging mode specifically, some eas break in the wrong mode.

hedging mode is a retail feature that sounds appealing but is rarely actually useful. the main argument for it is 'locking in profit' by opening the opposite direction instead of closing, but you're still paying spread/commission on both positions and can just achieve the same result by closing. the only genuine use case is certain ea setups that require explicit separate position tracking.

i went through this transition about three years ago. the practical improvement at the time was about 0.2 pips tighter on majors and significantly better fills on size above 5 lots. below 2 lots the difference is almost imperceptible. the admin overhead of the pop relationship, monthly minimums, and more complex account structure is only worth it once you're trading at consistent size.

the most important thing is to write your trade decision before you advance the bars. note your analysis, entry, stop, target, and reasoning before clicking play. then advance and see what happens. without the written pre-commitment you'll unconsciously let hindsight influence your read. the writing step is what turns passive chart watching into deliberate practice.

currently on my second funded account with them (been through since mid-2025). the main change from older reviews: they've moved heavily toward the hyper growth account as their flagship product. the older bootcamp style is less prominent. payout process is smooth, consistently 3-5 business days via bank wire or wise for me.

it's the same total just charged in one shot. the wednesday triple swap accounts for the weekend when markets are closed but positions are still held. you pay for saturday and sunday's financing on wednesday night. the weekly total stays the same, it's just batched. if you specifically want to avoid triple swap, close before wednesday rollover and reopen thursday - though commissions may offset the saving.

and the forward test period should cover different market regimes, not just calendar time. if your ea was developed during a trending period, your forward test should include a ranging period. if the market hasn't delivered a regime change during your forward test, you haven't actually stress-tested it. knowing what regimes you've covered matters as much as knowing how many trades you've taken.

mt5 mobile is fine for monitoring, modifying stops and targets on existing positions, and closing positions in an emergency. where it falls short: complex order entry with multiple conditions, running eas (can't execute local eas on mobile), chart analysis beyond basic timeframe switching, and fast execution during volatile moments when the mobile app sometimes lags on trade confirmation.

switched two years ago and wont go back. real gains: proper economic calendar built in, more timeframes, the strategy tester is multi-threaded and actually uses all your cores, and depth of market on brokers that provide it. losses: your mql4 stuff doesnt port automatically, custom indicators need rewriting in mql5 which is a different enough language to be annoying.

the troll names a real trap. i went through a phase where posting calls made me hold losers longer to avoid being publicly wrong. the fix wasnt to stop posting, it was to post the full plan including the stop before entry, so the exit was predefined and not subject to my public ego. publish the plan, not running commentary, and the attachment problem mostly goes away.

the troll overstates it for established firms but the caution is healthy for newer ones. the practical defence regardless: take payouts regularly rather than letting a big balance accumulate, so youre never heavily exposed waiting on one large withdrawal. a smooth first payout is good news, and withdrawing often keeps it good news rather than betting it stays that way at size.

mostly yes. use one moving average for a clean visual bias if you like, but make your actual trend call from structure: are we making higher highs and higher lows, or lower lows and lower highs. that read is available before any indicator confirms it, because the indicator is just averaging the same swings you can already see.

the fix that worked for me: once im within striking distance of the target, i cut my risk per trade in half. the math near the finish is asymmetric, a normal-sized loss now costs you the whole evaluation, while a normal-sized win only saves you a day or two. shrinking risk near the line reflects that asymmetry. the people who blow it at the end are sizing as if the last few trades matter as much as the first, when they matter far more.

the troll lands a real one, in-sample max drawdown is usually optimistic and live often exceeds it, which is why a robust process pads it. i use roughly one and a half times the backtested max drawdown as the real kill line, on the assumption live will be worse than history. and i separate the two questions explicitly: has the drawdown exceeded my padded threshold, and separately, has the market mechanism the system exploits structurally changed. either one trips the review. the padding addresses exactly the overfit-optimism the troll described.
