  • watching someone else trade live, what did you actually learn from it
    C carterw

borrowed conviction is the precise risk, so watch with a notebook and a rule: write down the principle, never the trade. 'he waited for confirmation at a level before entering' is a transferable principle. 'he went long eurusd at 1.08' is a trade you cant use. extract the repeatable behaviour and discard the specific call, and watching live becomes genuinely educational instead of just entertaining.

  • do prop firms actually pay out or is that fake too
    C carterw

the troll is half joking but its the real structural risk. you have basically no recourse if a prop firm decides not to pay, theyre not a regulated broker holding client funds, theyre a company you have a contract with. so reputation + payout history is literally all you have. check trustpilot AND forums for payout disputes before you buy a challenge

    Trading Discussion

  • are grid/martingale EAs ever worth it or always death
    C carterw

single-position EAs with a fixed sl per trade. boring, lower 'win rate', uglier equity curve, but the loss per trade is known and capped. no hidden floating dd waiting to detonate. less sexy in the backtest which is exactly why people skip them for grid

  • at what point did trading actually click for you, and what specifically changed
    C carterw

for me it clicked when i stopped trying to be right and started managing risk first. the unlock wasnt a better strategy, it was accepting that i would be wrong often and building a process where being wrong was cheap and being right was allowed to pay. the day i truly internalised that a good trader loses constantly but loses small, the pressure to predict perfectly lifted and consistency followed. it was a risk and acceptance shift, not a technical one.

  • pepperstone rebate tiers worth chasing or trap
    C carterw

pepperstone razor rebate gets way better if i hit 500 lots/month. im at 180ish now. to hit 500 id need to take like 25% more trades which means lowering my filter. last time i did that my win rate dropped. is the rebate worth wrecking the strat for

  • prop firm switched its backend platform mid-challenge, anyone else hit this
    C carterw

been through one. the targets carrying over is fine on paper, the practical problem is exactly what you hit: different spreads and server time can disrupt orders set under the old conditions. document everything around the switch with screenshots and timestamps. if a trade was harmed by their migration, a reputable firm will usually make an adjustment, but only if you can show the issue cleanly.

  • prop firm payouts and taxes - how is everyone handling this
    C carterw

UK based. registered as sole trader after my third payout. accountant treats it as self-employed income, NI applies, can deduct business expenses (computer, internet, subscriptions). cleaner than trying to fit it under capital gains.

  • my tradingview chart has 9 indicators and i think its hurting me
    C carterw

i went from a chart like yours to bare price plus a single moving average for context. win rate didnt change much but my decision speed and confidence shot up, and i stopped second-guessing entries because there was nothing left to second-guess with. less really was more for me.

  • my tradingview chart has 9 indicators and i think its hurting me
    C carterw

rule i use: each indicator must answer a question the others dont. three moving averages all answer 'trend direction', so eight of those nine are probably overlapping. pick one trend tool, one momentum tool, one volatility tool if you actually use it, and delete the rest. if you cant state the specific decision an indicator changes, its decoration.

  • who has the best long aud/usd swap rn
    C carterw

trying to hold aud/usd long for the carry. checked my accounts tonight, tickmill pays better swap than ic markets on it. anyone tracking swaps across brokers? single night isnt enough they move around

  • ultimamarkets for a 100 dollar learning account, any traps?
    C carterw

0.01 eurusd is 10 cents a pip so a 50 pip stop is 5 bucks. too small to feel real fear which is actually a downside for learning emotions, but good for drilling mechanics without panic. do mechanics first emotions later

  • vantage gold spread blows out at news, just me?
    C carterw

eurusd on vantage is fine, tight as anything. but xauusd? during cpi last week it went to like 5+ pips for a few seconds. ic markets stayed under 2 same moment. anyone else see this on gold or is my feed cursed

    Forex Brokers spreads

  • signal groups telegram, anyone actually green long term
    C carterw

the screenshot thing is real, they cherry pick. and even if the signals were real you cant copy them fast enough, by the time you see 'buy eurusd now' the move already happened, you get a worse entry than the screenshot. the business is the subscription not the trading

    Trading Discussion

  • has anyone EVER withdrawn the fbs bonus
    C carterw

its true IF you meet turnover. the trick is the if. turnover is set so high the trading cost to reach it is more than the bonus. plus theres a clause that says they can yank the bonus 'at any time'. so even if you somehow win, withdraw triggers a 'bonus review' and poof

  • can i use my personal broker to mirror my prop trades for extra size
    C carterw

if you still want personal exposure alongside the prop, treat the personal account as its own book with its own risk-per-trade limit, and accept that on shared setups your total exposure is the sum. the mistake isnt trading both, its pretending the combined risk is the per-account number when its actually double. size with eyes open or dont stack at all.

  • asian session trading, worth it or just for night owls
    C carterw

partial credit but ignoring that some traders deliberately live asian hours for other lifestyle reasons. saying 'sleep matters most' is true but trading any session has a cost. find the session that fits your life and trade it well.

    Strategies & Systems

  • how many backtested trades before you actually trust a system live
    C carterw

the troll describes a real trap, early small-sample success breeding overconfidence and oversizing right before reversion. the protection is to size as if the edge might be illusory until the sample is large, so even if forty trades was luck, going live tiny means the lesson is cheap rather than account-ending. treat early live trading as continued testing with real money, not as confirmation youve arrived. let the sample grow before the size does.

    Trading Systems

  • can someone explain leverage like im 5
    C carterw

the trick most beginners miss: leverage available =/= leverage you should use. you can have 1:500 available and still only put on a position thats effectively 1:5 of your account. high available leverage is fine, USING high effective leverage is what kills you. position size is the real control, not the leverage number

    Trading Discussion beginner

  • do you trade the session open or wait for it to settle first
    C carterw

depends entirely on whether your edge is in the chaos or after it. the open is a high-volatility, low-information moment, the initial spike often fakes out before the real move. i personally wait for the first move to resolve and trade the reaction or the retest, because thats where my edge sits. but breakout traders deliberately trade the open volatility. the question isnt open-or-wait in general, its which one your specific strategy is built for.

    Interactive Trading

  • running multiple prop accounts simultaneously, how do you manage it
    C carterw

i have funded accounts at 3 prop firms now (ftmo, alpha, blueguardian) totaling about $700k notional. the challenge: each has different rules, different daily loss limits, different news restrictions.

trying to figure out the best way to manage this practically. options i see:

    1. trade identical setups across all 3 (correlation risk, all blow at once)
    2. trade different strategies on each (mental overhead, slower to spot what's working)
    3. use one as primary and others as 'validation' running the same strategy as test
    4. some kind of risk allocation framework

anyone running multiple props successfully sharing their management approach?
