ive grown past the point where retail brokers feel right and keep seeing prime-of-prime mentioned. but most of that world seems built for funds and serious capital. for a well-capitalised individual, is moving to a prime-of-prime arrangement genuinely worth the higher minimums and complexity, or is it status-chasing?

for most well-capitalised individuals its premature. prime-of-prime makes sense when your size genuinely strains retail liquidity or you need direct relationships and credit terms a retail broker cant offer. if youre trading a six figure account on majors, a good ecn retail broker already gives you institutional-grade pricing without the minimums, paperwork and credit requirements. the jump is about access you need, not a status upgrade.

the credit and counterparty terms are the real reason serious operations go prime-of-prime, not better majors pricing. unless you specifically need those, a strong ecn retail account is the pragmatic ceiling for most individuals. chasing prime for the label usually just adds friction with no measurable improvement in your actual fills.

ninety percent of individuals asking about prime-of-prime want the business card, not the liquidity. if your retail ecn is genuinely the bottleneck on your returns youd know exactly why, not be asking a forum whether its worth it.

the troll is blunt but the test is sound: can you name the specific limitation of your current setup that prime-of-prime solves? if the answer is a concrete thing, fills degrading at your size, needing multi-currency credit, wanting direct LP relationships, then its worth exploring. if the answer is vague, its the business card. i moved only when i could name the exact constraint, and even then the retail ecn had served longer than i expected.

name the constraint it solves or stay retail ecn.
