mt5 mobile app for actual trading vs just monitoring - where it falls short
-
trying to figure out how much i can rely on mt5 mobile when i'm away from my desk. i can monitor positions fine but i've heard managing trades on mobile has some limitations. anyone who uses mt5 mobile regularly - what can you reliably do and what should you not attempt on it?
-
mt5 mobile is fine for monitoring, modifying stops and targets on existing positions, and closing positions in an emergency. where it falls short: complex order entry with multiple conditions, running eas (can't execute local eas on mobile), chart analysis beyond basic timeframe switching, and fast execution during volatile moments when the mobile app sometimes lags on trade confirmation.
-
the lag on fast execution is the main practical problem. during a news release on mobile you might submit an order and see a 2-3 second delay before it confirms. on desktop that's much faster. if you're trading news or anything time-sensitive, mobile is genuinely not suitable. for monitoring and trailing stops on a swing position mobile is perfectly adequate.

is the mobile app better on iphone or android? i've heard the ios version is more reliable.
-
used both for about a year. ios version is slightly more polished and the charts render faster. android is fine but the older versions on slower devices can have chart rendering lag. on a modern flagship android phone the difference is minimal. the bigger variable is your connection quality at the time, not the os.

one thing worth setting up: server-side stops and targets on every position, not just local stops. if your mobile app crashes or you lose connection, a local stop doesn't execute. a stop order sitting on the broker server executes independently of your terminal. non-negotiable if you're away from your desk and relying on mobile for emergency management.
