trading on a single 27 inch monitor for 2 years. constantly alt-tabbing between tradingview, mt5, news feed, and a python notebook for journaling. considering upgrading to dual monitor setup.

for those who made the jump to dual monitors: did your trading actually improve or just your comfort? specifically interested in whether the productivity boost translated to better decisions or just less friction.

moved single to dual in 2023. immediate quality of life improvement, modest trading improvement. the trading benefit comes from being able to see HTF context permanently while monitoring LTF entries on the other screen. with single monitor i kept switching timeframes and losing context. dual monitor = HTF and LTF always visible simultaneously.

+1. specifically for multi-timeframe analysis dual is huge. another use case: charts on one screen, news/economic calendar on the other. catching news drops without alt-tabbing is faster reaction time on volatile moves.

used 24-27 inch monitor: $80-150 secondhand. cable + arm mount: $40 if needed. total roughly $120-200 one-time cost. if youre trading seriously the productivity benefit pays for itself within weeks of better trading decisions or saved alt-tab time. one of the highest ROI trading purchases you can make.

the 6 monitor trading desk is the most over-marketed image in finance. nobody needs 6 monitors. 1 monitor + good window management is fine for 90% of retail traders.

went from 1 to 3 monitors over 2 years 🔥 the difference between 1 and 2 was huge. the difference between 2 and 3 was marginal. dual is the sweet spot for most retail. dont over-build the desk

i'd argue ultrawide 34-38 inch single monitor beats dual smaller monitors. continuous screen real estate without bezels, single mouse cursor, scales better. depends on personal preference but worth considering before committing to dual.
