trading from home sounds great until you have small kids, a partner with their own work schedule, and household stuff happening all day. my best trading sessions used to be london open (08:00 my time) but that's prime breakfast and school drop-off chaos.

for parent traders specifically: what schedule have you actually made work? not the idealized version, the real one with interruptions and compromises.

two young kids, primary parent during school hours. moved my trading to evening ny session (19:00-23:00 my time, after kids sleep). it took 6 months to adapt strategies from london to ny session timing. less liquidity, different character, but its the only time i can focus. trade what fits your life not what books recommend.

+1 on adapting to your life rather than fighting it. parent traders cant treat trading like a 8-5 job because life doesnt have an 8-5 quiet period. either: trade fewer sessions per week at higher quality, or pick the session that genuinely fits your routine.

is it actually possible to trade well while taking care of small kids? feels impossible during the day

possible but you have to set realistic expectations. trying to scalp while parenting toddlers is genuinely impossible. holding swing positions and checking 2-3 times per day is doable. matching your strategy timeframe to your attention availability is the key insight.

i switched to weekly timeframe positions specifically because i couldnt watch markets during the day. open positions monday based on weekly bias, manage on phone if needed during the week, close by friday usually. low decision frequency = compatible with parenting. p&l is smaller per trade but i actually trade instead of stress about not trading.

trading from home with kids is the lifestyle scam. you either trade well and ignore your family or be present with family and trade poorly. theres no magic schedule. choose.

false binary. the answer is timeframe alignment. high frequency intraday needs uninterrupted focus, true. weekly swing trading needs hours per week not hours per day. choosing the right timeframe makes it possible to both trade well and be present at home.

i trade nights after the kids are asleep 🌙 less optimal market conditions but its the only time i can think clearly. trade what fits your life. forcing the conventional schedule when youre a parent breaks your trading and your family
