maybe its just me but eurusd feels like its been chopping in 50 pip ranges for weeks. dxy not moving much, ecb and fed both holding rates, no clean trend in either direction.

my breakout strategy that worked great in mid 2025 is just getting chopped to death right now. takes 3 fakes for every clean breakout.

is this a structural shift (low volatility regime) or just a normal seasonal slowdown? curious what people are seeing.

Size down before you size up.

100%. atr on daily is at like 65 pips. compared to ~120 in q3 2025. when central banks are both on hold the dollar index just doesnt move much.

low vol regimes punish breakout strategies and reward mean reversion. either adapt the strategy or just sit out fx and trade indices/commodities where vol is more interesting right now. dont force eurusd.

how do you actually 'switch to mean reversion'? do you just take opposite signals from your breakout strat?

          still learning

no, opposite isnt the answer because then you fail at every real breakout. you need a different setup entirely - fade extremes near range boundaries with tight stops, take small wins, dont hold for big moves. completely different mindset.

            boring usually works

i fully switched to gbpjpy and gold during this regime 🔥 fx majors are dead, but cross volatility is still tradeable. you have to follow where the moves are

              journal it

ranges arent worse. youre just impatient. wait for the move. it always comes.

stats from my trade log: q4 2025 breakout win rate dropped from 38% to 22%, average win shrank, average loss stayed same. measurable structural change in eurusd behavior. switching strategies, not waiting it out.
