markets.com sent me a notice last week about a new 'inactivity premium' for accounts trading less than 5 lots per month. on top of their existing inactivity fee and the spread markups that have been creeping up all year.

this is what, the 4th fee structure change in 18 months? feeling like im being nickel and dimed.

who's moved off markets.com recently and where to? want to consolidate to something more transparent.

yep got the same notice. left them in october for ic markets and havent looked back. their fee creep over 2024-2025 was relentless. spreads quoted vs spreads actually got worse every quarter.

tracked my effective trading cost on markets.com vs pepperstone over 6 months. on identical volume markets.com was 28% more expensive when all fees and spread differences were summed. that was the data that pushed me out.

how do you calculate effective trading cost? do you just look at the spread when you enter?

effective cost per trade = spread paid + commission + any slippage on entry/exit + any inactivity or financing fees pro-rated. you need to log each trade entry/exit price vs the broker quoted price at that exact second. its tedious but its the only honest comparison. spread display alone lies.

markets.com always was a marketing operation more than a trading operation. youre 18 months late to figure that out.

i moved from markets.com to oanda after their second fee hike in 2024 and life is just easier. yes oanda has its own issues but at least their fee structure has been stable for years

the move that actually helped me: stopped chasing 'best broker', settled on ic markets raw account with low complexity. boring is fine. constant broker hopping costs you in transitions, lost familiarity, retrying systems on new feeds.
