One gives a single lump sum, another itemises everything, and the third is somewhere in between with a bunch of allowances I don't understand. I've been looking into the Top kitchen and bathroom remodeling contractor in Palo Alto as one option, but the bigger problem is I don't know what to ask to make these quotes comparable. Should I be insisting on a detailed breakdown, or is a lump sum actually safer? And what are the usual things contractors leave out that end up costing more later? I'd rather go in prepared than get surprised halfway through.
